Rutgers University School of Nursing is a leader in education, research, and practice to improve health care and health outcomes among diverse populations. In addition to studying to become a nurse and make people’s lives around them better, these students are an outstanding organization in the RU4Kids Program. Starting off in the program just 4 years ago, RUSON added their first RU4Kid, Lauren, to their family. The organization saw that other organizations at Rutgers were getting involved with it, so why not them. Everyone in the School of Nursing wanted to get involved since they were passionate about the field and working with kids. As the school’s involvement in the RU4Kids program grew, they added Samantha and Isabel to their families. All the kids in the program have gotten to know each other and have grown a great community filled with joy.
The current liaisons for the school are Molly Naft and Jane Ehlers. They have worked tremendously to flourish the relationship with their families and getting everyone in the school involved. They loved seeing Isabel at their first time at Dance Marathon and are very excited to see Samanta at the upcoming one. They love seeing the impact all their efforts have on the families and the kids. Molly and Jane both love Family Hour at the marathon since it showcases the culmination of all their efforts. It reminds them of the WHY moment and they know exactly WHO the proceeds are going towards. Their favorite part is being able to support and uplift families. Families go through a tough time with a diagnosis, so having a supportive community by your side make a big difference. In order to be an outstanding organization in the program, RUSON students make sure they get to know the children and their families well. They find what interests them and build up on that to make sure they are enjoying their time. The families need support in this tough time. They love advocating for the cause and getting everyone in the school involved. They are planning on getting the school to sponsor shirt sales with the money going straight to Dance Marathon. In the future Molly and Jane say they will continue supporting Embrace Kids Foundations. EKF thinks about things that no other charities really do, and RUDM helps that cause and truly makes a difference in the families’ lives.
